Two years ago I had a trip to Kaliningrad to make a short piece about the Amber Combine. The task was to tell about the amber industry in Russia and the situation with illegal diggers, also about the ways of amber mining. I remember walking around among machines, looking at large stones of saturated honey color, and thinking about why everything that we used to see in our mothers and grandmothers caskets was so boring? Why is there some kind of prejudice about amber as a stone from the past? The thing is that it is incredibly valuable all over the world. In addition to the fact that the largest amber deposit is on the Russian coast of the Baltic Sea (I was fortunate to go down to the quarry and see with my own eyes how it is mined), it is also an amazingly beautiful stone with dozens of shades, inclusions and unique patterns.
Six months later, me and my friend and business partner Michael Tantsura came up with an idea to create Ambery – an online amber jewelry store. We want to show that amber can be a stylish and beautiful decoration element. And the global aiming is the promotion of Russian amber around the world. That’s why Ambery is launched in English, with the ability to pay by your bank card of any country (and even through AliPay). Russian is also available, of course.
Soon a collection was born and we called it Modernism. As an architect by education, I’ve always appreciated geometry and balance in everything – whether it’s a living space or an object design. In our first independent collection, we wanted to show the uniqueness of amber in simple, but at the same time, adjusted forms, where main attraction is on the stone – a rare and unlike anything.
Modernism is a kind of mix of Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture, transferred to our pieces. Developing took about six months, and it was a complicated but very interesting process – first sketches, close interaction with jewelers, understanding all those uneasy specifics of working with amber, also selection of suitable stones and materials. Step by step, a whole collection began to emerge, and my task was to create not only jewelry items for every day, but also something bright and self-sufficient.
As a result, seventeen items were born, in which silver and gilt are intertwined. Delicate long pendants and minimalistic necklaces. Earrings with a rare translucent stone in witch, like in a watercolor, black and golden colors shine. Rings covered with zirconium with opaque amber, inspired by American skyscrapers of the 30’s – all this variety of shades and the uniqueness of amber make each thing unique.
We are happy to tell you that today we can share the result of our work and will be glad to see you in our store.
We have been planning to present our items in Saint-Petersburg for a long time. Despite the delivery service with a free trying-on option, the important advantage of a jewelry brand is to provide the customer the opportunity for an authentic shopping experience with the ability to receive professional advice from a specialist. Fabergé Museum Store is now the place where you can do it all.
Currently there are no more than two hundred Baltic ringed seals in the Gulf of Finland, and forty years ago the region was inhabited by several thousand species. The subspecies are on the brink of extinction, and if we don’t take urgent measures, these rare sea mammals will disappear from the Gulf of Finland. Our charity project along with the Friends of the Baltic Seal is a great chance to tell about the existing problem and possible ways to solve it.
Last summer we launched Leta FM to share compilations of our favorite music that was playing in our showroom in Moscow. Since then, the project has grown and become less formal at the same time. Together with original mixes being released once per season, we decided to share with you any music that inspires us.
Today we launch “Saving the Planet” section on our site. There we have tried to express our opinion on the environmental problems that humanity has faced and about the way in which we do not shy away from them.
