It’s been a year since we’ve released our ROMA collection, a modern interpretation of ancient Roman architecture. As the end of this unusual and weird year finally approaches, we think it’s finally time to present something new.
The Atlas collection became a story about architecture created by nature on our planet. Every piece in this collection follows the contour lines of a specific location somewhere in the world. It is an imaginary journey and new experience, as well as a quest for self and the path of life, a recognition of your power. In that sense Atlas is a collection where every item is symbolic. It can become a reminder of the amazing places on earth, and also an anchor in critical situations.
There is almost no strict geometry, angles or symmetrical forms in the Atlas pieces. That’s the way our planet builds its relief, creating soft, sweeping lines and unexpected vertical drops. All the items are gold plated, and their matte surface naturally complements the unusual sandy texture.
As always, we do all we can to preserve the natural world. All of the materials for “Atlas” collection were mined and processed in a responsible way so the damage to ecosystem is minimised.
A word from Katya Alagich, designer and co-founder of Leta
“The Atlas collection was born in the spring of 2020, a tough time when we all happened to be locked up. I move across the world quite a lot, and in that sense the new way of life without impressions of new places became simply unbearable.
Desperate, I started travelling to the most beautiful corners of the world with the help of online maps. To the places I had visited earlier, or dream of exploring one day. I was studying the relief of different areas, and at some point I realised that I keep focusing not only on the peculiar contour lines, but also on the feelings I get from associations with these places. That’s when the idea about a collection first struck me, a collection inspired by the original, untouched, natural, and not human-made art, unlike it was with ROMA and Modernism.
Experience of this kind of places is always special — wider, purer, deeper somehow. Every item in this collection became my personal emotional experience, a metaphor of the feel of travelling. But their symbols are all different, since the locations are unlike each other. I think that in this collection every woman will find her piece of jewelry and her power.”
Since the beginning of our story, we have been thinking about the necessity of having an ajustable chain lock on our necklaces and pendants. In the case of a pendant on a chain, it is a matter of aesthetics as to how you want to wear your favourite piece – tighter to your neck or closer to the decolatte. It is different and more critical in the case of a necklace as it could turn out to be too big or, the opposite, be so small that you couldn`t easily fasten it.
Modernism is a kind of mix of art deco architecture, constructivism and avant-garde painting, transferred to our pieces. Developing took about six months, and it was a complicated but very interesting process – first sketches, close interaction with jewelers, understanding all those uneasy specifics of working with amber, also selection of suitable stones and materials.
Leta is committed to completely zeroing its carbon footprint by 2028. This will be achieved by eliminating paper, reducing energy consumption in manufacturing and stores, using electric transport for delivery, and participating in sustainable forest management programs.
A talented photographer Lucy Zharikova went to Yantarny this summer to create an atmospheric shoot on the Baltic Coast for Ambery. Inspired by the cold sea, fresh wind and natural textures, such as wood and smoky pebbles, Lucy subtly conveyed everything that we appreciate so much in our jewelry – simple and adjusted forms and natural beauty of amber.
